The Hotel d’Arlatan: in a mediaeval private mansion, a charming hotel, in Provence, in Arles, the gateway to Camargue!
In 1970, Lucien Clergue, Jean-Maurice Rouquette, and Michel Tournier created the International Photography Festival (Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie). Since then, the event has become the first photography festival in the world. Right from the beginning, it has been closely related to the Hotel d’Arlatan.
It’s here that the founders of the festival organized the first press conferences, the first exhibitions and projections. Since then, the festival has conquered other places, other sites, but the hotel remains the immutable seat of an important “ritual”: the presentation of the portfolios.
Every year, photographers from all horizons find themselves in the courtyard of the hotel, to show their work and to talk and exchange with other professionals of the photography world. Naturally, the great and mythical photographers chose and still choose this hotel during their stays in Arles.
